John Wick could appear in Mortal Kombat 1 – the developers tried to get a license
Ed Bun confirmed a very interesting situation. Netherrealm Studios tried to purchase a license and throw John Wick into the playing, but in the end the project failed, and the character played by Keanu Reeves will not appear in Mortal Kombat 1.
The head of Netherrealm Studios spoke about this plan in a recent interview – he noted that the team "I tried to get John Wick", But in the end, I could not get a license for this character.
When we created Mortal Kombat (1992), the whole team was in full swing "Bloody sports", "The release of the dragon" and all films about the terminator. Of course, I saw John Wick. Actually, it was him – John Wick – we tried to get it in Mortal Kombat, but it did not work out.
The developer added that at one time there was an idea to make all the fighters well -known actors, but in this situation other problems arose – including budgetary. Hollywood stars, of course, would load Warner Bros pockets. Games, so in the end, such a project was also not implemented.
One of the things we considered for this game – and this is version 10 out of 10 – which we never did, was: "What if every character in this game was played by an actor?". For example, we asked Kean Reeves to play Kenshi. This, of course, is a pipe dream. We don’t even think about their salaries and other. But what if we made a game in which each character would play an actor, a famous, recognizable actor, and Johnny Kage would definitely play Jean-Claude Van Damm. So this thought really came to us. But at some point, I don’t know if he would like to work with the capture of the movement or say: "Just scan my face, and let someone else do everything else". They had to read hundreds of lines of dialogue. Many actors do not understand how complicated video games are. When you subscribe to participate in them, you do not just subscribe to come in one day, spend an hour in the sound recording studio and finish. It is like a real acting work.
